About Pedal & Park

Pedal & Park provides free parking for bicycles and rollerblades at public events. We do this to encourage use of non-motorized transportation alternatives, promote use of trails and greenways, dispense relevant recreational literature and raise funds for the partnering not-for-profit organizations. In the past 10 years, we have parked nearly 12,000 bikes.

Partners

Our bicycle corrals are continuously monitored by volunteers from the partners shown (and linked to) below. To volunteer as a corral supervisor on behalf of your favorite partner organization, call 317-255-0559. If you have other questions or comments, send email to Pedal & Park Chairman tom mcCain.

Each of the partners also provides volunteers who serve on a steering committee that plans events, keeps records, oversees budget and maintains equipment. The Greenways Foundation provides our web site.

Metropolitan Planning Organization

Our free bicycle parking is made possible by a subsidy from the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO).

The MPO, as season sponsor since 2001, pays a $1 parking fee subsidy for each bike checked. The proceeds from that is shared by the participating not-for-profit Partner organizations. In addition, the MPO provides tent shelters, literature displays, and communications and public relations support.

"Our support of Pedal & Park is an investment in transportation system efficiency and regional health," says MPO Manager/Master Planner Mike Dearing. "Programs like this one encourage people to use their bikes for transportation, not just recreation. That improves traffic flow, parking, area mobility and regional air quality for everyone."
